Math 6112: Algebra II

This is the second semester of the intro sequence in graduate algebra.  The main topics are categories, homological algebra, and Galois theory.

Classes are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 11:30 - 12:25pm, in Bolz 311.

Office hours (MW 602): M 2-3, W 10-11, or by appointment.

There is no single text for the course.  We will draw on Lang's Algebra, Jacobson's Basic Algebra II, and Artin's Galois Theory, among other sources.

Grades

Grades will be based on several homework assignments (total of 50%) a midterm exam (20%) and a final (30%).
