**COURSE OBJECTIVES**

To introduce students to the syllabus for the Society of Actuaries' Exam P ans Casualty Actuarial Society's Exam 1. The course will contain a quick review of ideas from calculus and probability, an introduction to the ideas of risk management needed for the examination, and extensive problem solving. Most students will sit for Exam P in August or November.**HOMEWORK**

Students are expected to work out all the problems in each section.**QUIZZES**

A short quiz, usually one or two questions, will be given each week. The problems will be similar to the previouse problem sets.**EXAMS**

There will be two midterms. Midterm 1 will cover Sections 0--5, and Midterm 2 will cover Sections 6--10. The problems will be similar to the comprehensive tests at the end of the textbook, the old SOA/CAS exam problems, or the homework problems. An optional comprehensive midterm 3 worth 100 points may be given at the end of the quarter. It can be used to replace one of the midterm exams. Any student who has an exam time conflict with another*regularly scheduled OSU course*will be given the exam at an alternative time. Students with other types of time conflicts (work, social activities, ... etc.) should make arrangements to take the exam as scheduled.**GRADE**

The course grade is based on your quizzes and midterm exams.Quizzes 70--80 Midterms (2 @ 100 each) 200 **Total****270-280**The following is a rough cut-off (in percent) for letter grade.

Adjustments may be made to the scale at the end of the quarter.
