Homework 3,  due Wednesday, October 13, 2003

Don't leave these until the night before they are due!

Be sure to sketch each figure before doing the calculations for the integral.

1.  Textbook, page  224: #4,  6,   13,  26,  30

2.  Textbook, page 229:  #1, 6, 8, 10. 14

3.  Textbook, page 235:  #4, 10

4.  (a) Revolve around the  x-axis  the curve  y = 1/x from  x = 1  to  x = c, where  1 < c.  Find the volume of the resulting solid.

     (b)  Now take the limit of your answer in (a) as c approaches infinity.  You see that what appears to be an infinitely long spindle along the  x-axis has finite volume.

5.  Textbook, page 240, #4, 12

6.  Reconcile the two answers for the indefinite integral of  sin 2x  found on acetate 051.JPG
