General information:

Homework: I will post homework problems (click here) as we go.
It is best to solve problems after each lecture and before new material is presented (you will absorb the new material better!)
The posted homework problems need to be turned in for grading each Wednesday, at the beginning of class.
You are allowed, even encouraged, to work in groups (up to three, OK, four if it is absolutely necessary). The group will then submit only one write-up, signed by all the members of the group.

I know you will attempt to solve the problems (this phase of exploration is super-important for building new pathways in the brain). You may sometimes get frustrated and time-pressed, and then may succumb to trying to find a ready-made solution elsewhere. If this is the case, then you need to do two things:
1. Ask yourself: "what did I miss here? did I make a mistake, which one? what should I notice next time?" this will ensure that you have new strategies for tackling similar problems in the future, building the path to successful completion of the occasional quizzes and of the exams.
AND
2. You need to give written credit to the origin of the solution.

You are encouraged to solve more problems, and to try to prove statements proved in class all by yourself. This is how you learn math!

The grader will randomly choose three problems for grading, each worth 5 points. The presentation of your solutions matters!
No late homework will be accepted.

The final grade will be determined by your total number of points as follows:
Midterm exam I              100 points
Midterm exam II             100 points
Final exam                      200 points
Homework and Quizzes 100 points

Tests: The midterm exams are tentatively scheduled for Mon Sept 10, and Wed Oct 10.
Final exam: according to university schedule, found here.
Namely, the section meeting at 12:40 will have the final on Thursday Dec 13, 2PM-3:45PM
and the section meeting at 3PM will have the final on Friday Dec 7,  12:00pm-1:45pm.
