Math 3345 - Foundations of Higher Mathematics




Our class meets MWF from 11:30am to 12:25pm at Smith Lab 3082.

Office hours: Mondays and Fridays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at my office MW 710.

We will have two midterms and a final exam. There is weekly homework. The breakdown of the grade for the class is as follows: Homeworks/Midterms: 20% each (we will have 2 midterms). Final exam: 40%.


Course description


Homework 1 (due Friday Jan. 13): Section 2: Problems 1,2,3 and 4 of the textbook.

Homework 2: (due Wednesday Jan. 18) Exercise 1 on page 28. (Do not write in words what each sentence means. Only state whether the statement is true or false and prove it). Exercise 1 on page 41.

Homework 3 (due Wednesday Jan. 25): Section 2: 10, 17, 19, 24 and Section 3: 5, 7, 10, 12, 14.

Homework 4 (due Wednesday Feb. 1): Section 4: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16.

Our first midterm will be in class on February 8th.

Homework 5 (due Wednesday Feb. 15): Section 5: 2, 3(a,b) and 4.

Homework 6 (due Wednesday Feb. 22): Section 5: 5, 10, 13, 15 and 16.

Homework 7 (due Wednesday Mar. 1): Section 6: 1, 2, 5, 7, Section 7: 5 and Section 10: 10, 11 and 12.

Homework 8 (due Wednesday Mar. 8): Section 10: 15, 16, 18 (c,d,e), 19, 21 (c), 22 (c), 24, 25 and 28.

Our second midterm is on Wednesday March 22nd.

Homework 9 (due Wednesday Mat. 29): Section 11: 4, 6, 10, 15 and 17.

Homework 10 (due Wednesday April 5): Section 11: 18, 19, 20(b), 23, 26, 28. Section 12: 2.

Homework 11 (due Wednesday April 12): Section 13: 1, 2, 3, 5.

Homework 12 (due Monday April 24): Section: 6, 8. Section 14: 3, 4, 5. Section 15: 1, 2, 3.

Our final exam is on Friday April 28 from 12:00pm-1:45pm at Smith Lab 3082.
